About JumpTheScare

JumpTheScare is a companion app for people who want to watch horror, thrillers, or intense content — without getting blindsided by sudden scary moments.

How it works

Every show and movie in our catalog comes with a carefully curated timeline of scary events — marked with the exact moment they happen, how long they last, and whether you can safely watch with the sound off, with your eyes closed, or both.

While you watch, you keep JumpTheScare open on a second screen or device. The app counts down to each scary scene before it happens — giving you time to react. When the scare is over, it tells you it's safe to look again.

Why it exists

Lots of people love horror movies and spooky shows, but can't always handle the moments of sudden shock. Maybe you're anxious, maybe you're watching late at night, maybe you're just not in the mood to be startled. Or maybe someone in your household loves these shows and you want to watch together — on your own terms.

JumpTheScare lets you stay in control. You can close your eyes, mute the audio, or look away for a few seconds — and then get right back to enjoying the story. No more dreading what's around the corner.

The color system

Yellow — Warning

A scare is coming up in the next few seconds. Get ready to close your eyes or mute.

Red — Scare happening

The scary moment is happening right now. Look away or keep your eyes closed.

Green — All clear

The scare is over. It's safe to open your eyes and watch normally again.

Our approach to spoilers

Scare descriptions are written to be as spoiler-free as possible. They tell you what kind of thing to expect — not the full story detail — so you can make an informed choice without ruining the plot.

The post-scare recap is entirely optional. It's there if you want to know what happened while your eyes were closed, but you can dismiss it or turn it off entirely.
